James A. Whitmore is a proven community leader and public servant with a distinguished record of action in Fairburn. His leadership experience began in his neighborhood, where he rose from Vice President to President of the Durham Lakes Golf and Country Club Property Owners Association.
Recognizing his passion for community governance, he was appointed to the Planning and Zoning Board, a role he fulfilled with distinction until his successful election to public office in January 2015. He remains at the forefront of municipal policy as an active member of both the Georgia Municipal Association and the National League of Cities.
As he seeks the office of Mayor, Councilman Whitmore is ready to lead Fairburn into a new era of growth, excellence, leveraging his experience to champion robust economic development and strategic planning.

James Whitmore's political platform is centered on promoting economic growth, youth development, civic infrastructure, governmental accountability, and support for public safety and first responders. As an elected official, Whitmore spearheaded the introduction of the Mental Fitness Atlanta S.T.E.A.M. (Science-Technology-Engineering-Arts-Mathematics) program to the City of Fairburn, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for young people.
In terms of civic policy, Whitmore has been a vocal proponent for green energy initiatives, advocating for the adoption of electric vehicles for first responders. He is a steadfast advocate for our public safety professionals and first responders. As their biggest supporter, they now have a new training facility, trucks, and a larger staff.
He also pushed for the re-evaluation of the city's Park and Ride system to incorporate electric charging infrastructure, aligning with a vision for modern, sustainable transportation.
Whitmore's governance style is characterized by his immediate and active engagement with both the business community and his constituents. He became known as a "people's choice" for his efforts to mediate and resolve community issues, including working directly with new business owners on conceptual plans and collaborating with citizens to address erroneous billing.
A key part of his tenure has been a focus on fiscal and administrative transparency. Whitmore publicly challenged the high salaries of specific city employees and called for greater transparency from the sitting mayor and city manager. He also championed community projects, such as supporting the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post to pave unsafe parking areas, further cementing his reputation as a responsive public servant.
Whitmore's political passion is also rooted in serving the community's most vulnerable populations, specifically the youth and senior citizens.
